The Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning is happy to announce a new suite of interdisciplinary learning spaces within the Armory building. The Armory Innovation Spaces include the Illinois Innovation Studio, a student-centered, high-tech ideation space, the Illinois Innovation TechHub, a technology exploration and experimentation space; and the iFLEX Innovation Classroom, a one-of-a-kind, ideation and learning space. All three spaces, plus a new CITL open-plan office with a small faculty commons area, are expected to be completed by May. Interested in taking a peek? We are happy to give you a tour, and discuss your ideas for new teaching possibilities. We are also accepting proposals for Fall 2017.
- The Illinois Innovation Studio will be a 30-seat project-based learning lab for creative exploration and innovative problem-solving. It will be a student-centered, high-tech ideation space that will also function as a classroom for two select courses per term.
- The Illinois Innovation TechHub will house a variety of new and emerging technologies for faculty, students, and staff to learn about and explore hands-on, and will serve as a hub for the campus community to share ideas, and collaborate across disciplines.
- The iFLEX Innovation Classroom with seating for 45 will be the first general assignment classroom to combine mixed furniture styles and heights with enhanced technologies, project space, and temporary storage in a studio-learning environment.
These spaces offer unique teaching and learning opportunities for hands-ons collaboration in technology-rich environments. As one faculty member recently said after touring the new spaces, “Seeing these rooms gives me so many ideas. Now I can finally design the kind of course I really want to teach!” Questions?
