Herman Miller – Learning Spaces Research Project

A colorful oasis greeted students returning from Thanksgiving break as the Center for Innovation in Teaching & Learning (CITL) unveiled new study and collaborative spaces in the north corridor of the Armory on the first floor. Utilizing the room-like spaces and steel girders that characterize that stretch of hallway, CITL collaborated with Herman Miller Furniture to create intentional areas for “relaxing,” “creating,” and “sharing.” All areas were painted, new furniture was added, and the benches were covered with soft, colorful pads. Additional power outlets and writing surfaces were also added. Students began using the spaces right away, and every seat was filled on the first day back from break.
